MtRC - Chapter05 PG18 by Zimeta MtRC - Chapter05 PG18 by Zimeta
Almost to the end of the chapter! Did I mention I'm finally going to be taking a short break? Once I get to the bumper I'm going to take a week to get ahead on my pages again. :) (And finish my commissions!)

Oooh, Mr. Stoat used the informal "Will" instead of "William". It seems he really likes him!

I think I've figured out why I don't like comics that use see-through speech balloons. Hehe.
Besides it being extremely distracting, of course.
Comics are an art form where it's pictures combined with words. The words are just as important as the drawings. People only make see-through speech balloons because they don't want to cover their art. But, if you do that, it's like you're trying to hide the words!

That's just me, though. ^^;

I agree with you about the speech balloons. The words and images need to complement and enhance each other. My personal goal has always been to also make each capable of standing alone; I have never pulled it off, but it's fun to try.

I'm going through my devwatch after being gone for four months, so I won't be able to comment on all of these.

I can't remember if I've mentioned this before, but I love how all the characters look very different despite some being the same or similar species.

Agreed on the speech bubble thing. See-through ones are very annoying.

Lovely page as usual! :D In response to what you said about transparent word balloons; in my opinion it makes it look like they didn't leave an actual emptier space in the art for the text to go, so they put it anywhere, and just thought 'I'll make the bubble see-through so my art can still be seen'. I think, for the most part, people who do that don't properly work out where their text is going in the first place. Just my two pence :)

I recall that when the girl was introduced she was taller than him...

Oh, she is. You just have to remember not to count Will's hair. Hehe.

I agree. Each panel is a composition. Speech bubble included. :)
I'll be waiting for the next update!

You're totally right about the speech bubbles. They tend to be used when an artist forgot to leave room for the words, and the letterer isn't sure if they can cover up the art or not. Always looks pretty bad.

(I know I haven't been commenting on this as much as I should be, but I'm really enjoying this comic. :))

And like, 90% of the comics that use wolves as main characters do it. Hehe. I guess they don't want to cover up how well they know how to draw canine anatomy.
Thanks! I had no idea you were reading. :o

I've seen comics where the speech bubbles are used to cover up naughty bits. Would you call that a tease or just a cheap trick? I mean really, if you don't want to show anything, draw a friggin' blanket.

Hehe. Yeah... if you don't want to go that far, maybe you shouldn't have drawn it in such a way. ;p

Plus, the reader can't help noticing that the speech bubble is covering up the naughty bits, and then their attention to what's going on in the comic gets derailed in a way it probably wouldn't have if they had put the bubble elsewhere. Seriously, if nudity is part of the story, let it be part of the story, don't chicken out at the last moment.

! I like Mr. Stoat and Sonia's a sweetheart.
I'll miss the daily update, because I really like reading this comic. I can't wait to see what's coming up next.

And see-through speech bubbles make the text hard to read.
