Just Wait Until These April Showers End by Zimeta Just Wait Until These April Showers End by Zimeta
For the challenge at :iconanthrocommunity:
as well as the contest at :iconmyths-and-legends:

I decided to enter two contests at once! :D And why not! Hehe. It was a nice challenge to take on the restrictions of both groups.

For AnthroCommunity the challenge is "April Showers", and the contest theme at Myths-and-Legends is "Beasts and Monsters of Myth" with the sub-theme of "Color Restriction".
The sub-theme makes it so that you can only use Gray, Pink, and Turquoise in your drawing for the contest.

So! I found a very nice way to mix all this stuff by choosing to draw Tezcatlipoca of Aztec mythology.

Because my drawings are so Western, while I was designing Tezcatlipoca I kept thinking he looked like a funky Disney Villain. And, that ended up helping me because I have trouble getting pictures of single characters to look interesting. All I had to do to get inspired was imagine he was a Disney Villain singing a villain song. To get in the mood I even wrote one.

And the song ended up being about Tezcatlipoca being anxious for April and the rain to end so he could get on to May, the month of the Aztec festival, Toxcatl. Toxcatl is dedicated to Tezcatlipoca and features a sacrifice in his honor. And that's not a joke! -- the Aztecs actually used to do all that.

Needless to say, Tezcatlipoca wasn't a very nice guy, and is often depicted as the bad-guy to Quetzalcoatl's goodness. (Quetzalcoatl was basically "the hero" in Aztec religion. And one of the few Aztec Gods who didn't demand sacrifice.)

Tezcatlipoca was associated with a LOT of things. That tends to happen when Gods gain importance. If you look him up on the internet you'll find all sorts of stuff listed under him. Some from Wikipeida are: night sky, the night winds, hurricanes, the north, the earth, obsidian, enmity, discord, rulership, divination, temptation, jaguars, sorcery, beauty, war and strife.

Some of you who look too closely at the picture might notice something wonky about one of his feet. In fact, it kinda looks like a snake. :o
That's because while Tezcatlipoca and Quetzalcoatl were creating the world, they decided to use a huge crocodile monster to create the earth. And to lure her, Tezcatlipoca used his own foot. So, when he was depicted in Aztec art he usually had either an obsidian mirror replacing it or a snake.

AND... if you've been reading the description this long, you're probably curious about the goofy villain song/poem I wrote for him. Well, here it is:

Just wait until these April showers end
Then I'll no longer have to pretend
No more waiting, no more boredom
I'll show them some real fun

My evil will spread like the night
They'll try to hide themselves from my might
Once the rain stops falling
That's when Tezcatlipoca comes calling

Just wait until these April showers end
Every man, woman, and child will have to attend
The sacrifice of those who oppose
The God with the missing toes

My evil will spread like a hurricane
And everyone will know my name
Tezcatlipoca is what they'll scream
When at least I have my dream

oh man... and those sacrifices where rather tame compared to some things they did... wait untill you hear what they did for Tlaloc..... they have such a rich and slightly creepy culture :D I've been studying it simce elementary school... it was part of the school program but I went and read old legend by myself, gotta love mesoamerican stuff.

is he a jaguar? he looks so stylized :) a really unique way to draw an anthro feline, he DOES look a lot like a disney villian, and the colors look amazing!

btw is that a human skull in his hand? D:

Yup -- He's a Jaguar. Part of the stylization is owed to the color restrictions of the contest -- I had to make him gray instead of black or orange.

And yes! He's got a human skull, there. :D

I intend to write him into my deity-stories as a main villain for a long time,
but still working on it.

Like your ideas, good job! :D

It's funny, but when I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was your character Will in some kind of Festival get-up!

This is very amazing. There are just so many reasons why this is awesome, but the one that catches my attention most was the fact that you only used three colors. That just boggles my mind. You amaze me. But besides that, with the character, his expression, his design, his wardrobe, his body language, and the backdrop, it's just an awesome picture all around. I would love to see that in a movie.
